Golf Betting Guide
New to betting on golf? We've got everything you need to know below including explanations of some of the popular markets for betting as well as important rules it's worth knowing before placing your bet.
Popular Markets
Outright Winner - the most popular bet in golf is betting on who will win a tournament. This can be a tournament which is taking place in the near future or a major later in the year. In order for your bet to win, the player in question must be declared the winner of the tournament, after any playoffs have taken place.
Top 5 / 10 / 20 etc - this is betting on the player in question to finish in the top 5 / 10 / 20 or however many places are stated in a tournament. If your player were to tie for 5th, then Dead Heat rules would apply.
Leader After Round - rather than betting on a player to win the tournament, this is where you bet on the player in question to be leading after the completion of the stated round. In the event that a round is delayed due to bad weather, this will only be settled once all players have posted a score for the stated round.
Other Markets
To Make the Cut - In most tournaments, the field is cut after the first 36 holes and in this instance, you'll be betting on a player to make the cut, or make it into the final group of players for the weekend.
Hole In One - you can bet on whether a Hole In One will be recorded in each of the four rounds, or in the tournament as a hole. The official governing body must recognise the Hole In One in order for bets to be settled as winners.
Match Bets - this bet involves pitting two golfers against each other in an imaginary mini-tournament. Over the stated rounds you will see markets for Player A and Player B including who will win (post the best score), either including or not including a draw.
Important Rules to Know
Player Did Not Compete or Complete - if you bet on a player and they do not take part in the tournament at all then your bet will be voided. If, however, your player takes part in the tournament at any stage and withdraws or is disqualified, all bets will be settled as losers.
Multiple Cuts - in any events where there are multiple cuts are made during more than one phase, only the first cut is used for settlement.
Majors - any reference to "Major" tournaments will be based on the tournaments for that particular season that the PGA attributes said definition, regardless of any venue, date or any other changes.
Top Nationality / Group Winners - in the event that you back a player to be the top nationality and both players miss the cut, the player with the better score at the time that the cut is made will be deemed the winner. Dead Heat rules apply if the players are tied for a position.
